The corrosion-resistant coating of hot-dipped galvanized steel products can be scratched, scored or abraded during subsequent handling and installation.  Albeit small, this amount of damage endangers not only the protection of the galvanizing, but also product appearance, causing spots of rust and areas unsuitable for any subsequent painting.
